This motif was made in honor of the first President of Ghana, the Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, for his sharp intellect, fine wit and his sharpened pencils. He was a great visionary not only for Ghanaians but the entire continent of Africa. He lead the liberation movement that gave modern Ghana its independence from British colonial rule and wanted to have a united Africa. He was highly educated and loved by Ghanaians. He was charismatic and witty. It is said that before he would give a speech, he wrote meticulous note with a very sharp pencil, hence Nkrumah pencil.
